Research Associate Position
Autism Spectrum Disorders and Behavior Analytic Reading Instruction
The Special Education program at Michigan State University is looking for a Research Associate to support a recently funded research program examining methods to teach reading to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The scholar will be closely affiliated with the Master’s in Special Education ASD endorsement program and the graduate certificate program in Applied Behavior Analysis. The position will also be linked to Michigan State University’s Research in Autism and Intellectual/Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (RAIND) Initiative—an initiative that includes collaborations focused on the prevention and treatment of persons with ASD and intellectual disabilities across the College of Education, the College of Social Sciences, the College of Human Medicine, and the College of Engineering. Desired areas of expertise include ASD intervention, applied behavior analysis, direct instruction, language and literacy development, and instructional technology.
The scholar’s responsibilities will include: supporting a recently funded intervention research project to develop and administer comprehensive reading instruction to children with ASD in K-4th grade; teaching and mentoring graduate students; and establishing an independent line of research.
- An earned doctorate in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology or related field
- A promising record of scholarly publications
- A strong commitment to excellence in teaching
- Experience administering academic instructional programs to individuals with moderate to severe ASD
- A background in applied behavior analysis
- Experience using technology to administer instructional programming and measure performance outcomes
- Commitment to working with cross-disciplinary research teams
Appointment: This is an anticipated two year position to be renewed annually based on satisfactory review. The expected start date is August 16, 2014.
